Game Boy Advance game — only a couple inches in size 
but occupies a young person for many hours of fun.
An engagement ring — in a very small box but brings great meaning for a future together.
A newborn baby — only a few pounds at birth yet brings much joy to a family.
As Christmas season approaches, one project in which our family gets involved is Operation Christmas Child. We shop for little things to put into our box to be shipped overseas to a child who otherwise may not receive any gifts at Christmas. We choose a child the age of one of our boys. As we pack the box, we talk about how this child, who has very little, will open the box and be excited and surprised at what is inside. I even get excited to think that our little box could be important to a young child, to give him a happy Christmas.
God, through the prophet Micah, reminded Israel that He hadn't forgotten His promise to David. The promised Messiah would come from David's lineage. From Bethlehem — a humble village, one of the smallest places in Israel, a community of shepherds — would come Jesus, the Son of God, the Savior of the world.
God doesn't forget His promises. He fulfills them to an even greater extent than we could ever believe.
This Christmas season, don't miss the big and wonderful gifts that may come in small packages. Indeed this wonderful and blessed promise did come in a very small package and from an obscure place. Worship Jesus this season as if you are meeting Him, the humble babe, for the very first time.
