On Oct. 20 University Heights Baptist Church, Springfield, held Rountree Roundup, a fundraising event benefiting Rountree Elementary School. The Church is a Partner in Education with the School.
A check for $1,325 will be presented to Principal David Martin at the Veterans Day Assembly at the school on Thursday, Nov. 8. The funds are being donated for the purchase of LCD projectors to be hung in the classrooms.
A presentation will also be made before the University Heights Baptist Church Congregation on Sunday, Nov. 11 during the 10:30 a.m. service.
Springfield School Districts Community Partner program matches businesses in the Springfield area with neighborhood schools. According to the Springfield Public Schools Community Development Web site the program is designed to “link businesses and community organizations with schools in a joint effort to develop activities, projects and incentives that enrich education and enhance academics. It is an important on-going relationship that has accomplished many valuable achievements over the years.”
Rountree and University Heights Baptist Church have been Partners in Education for over 5 years.
In addition to the annual Partner in Education donation the church provides an after school tutoring program for students nominated by their teachers for this program, transportation for extracurricular activities, parenting classes, a free parent night out program, teacher support, volunteers work days for and a number of other volunteer needs.
