Word&Way wins top state paper award

Word&Way won first place for state Baptist papers in the design division of the 2008 Baptist Communicators Association awards competition April 4 in Chandler, Ariz.

In all, six awards were presented to Missouri Baptist institutions and individuals.

“We at Word&Way are extremely pleased to be recognized as the top Baptist newspaper among our peers in this category,” editor Bill Webb said.

“It also is a reflection of the work of partners in our ‘New Voice Media’ collaboration with Baptist paper counterparts in Texas and Virginia, and with Associated Baptist Press,” he said.

“ABP graphic artist Lindsay Bergstrom, who designs cover packages for each issue, certainly has been an asset.

“This honor is a recognition of the excellent work of our entire staff.”

BCA awards also went to the following Missouri Baptist communications professionals:

• Second place in newsletter, other newspaper or tabloid in the design division, to Stacey Hamby and the communications team at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Liberty, for “The Connection.” Hamby also received an honorable mention in newspaper or newsletter in the feature writing division for “Lindsay’s Story.”

• Second place in online publication in the newswriting division, Brian Kaylor, Baptist General Convention of Missouri, for “Reports Conflict About Fred Thompson’s Church Membership Attendance.”
