Tricia Alberts tapped to lead Sports Crusaders

JEFFERSON CITY — The Sports Crusaders board unanimously elected Tricia Alberts as executive director during its meeting on Oct. 15 in Jefferson City.

She previously served as director of operations and camp coordinator. Sports Crusaders founder and retired Executive Director Bobby Shows served as interim during the search process.

Board members also welcomed Camdenton schoolteacher Cory Casey as the new director of At Risk and International Ministries. Former Minister to Students David Percival recently left to become pastor of Clarksburg Baptist Church. All Sports Crusader staff members raise their own salary support.

The board voted to print a customized Bible with both Testaments to be used in sports camps and outreach. The book God’s Game Plan by Shows and James Preston will be reprinted this fall, with scriptural answers to common sports questions.

The board learned staff is making progress in recruiting staff and securing locations for 2011 summer sports camps, using the theme "Live Like a Champion Today." The board discussed plans for multiple camps outside the continental United States.

Camps in 2010 reported more than 2,050 students with 335 professions of faith.

Sports Crusaders is selling tickets to the St. Louis Rams-Atlanta Falcons game on Nov. 21 in St. Louis. Each ticket is $40, with $15 to fund Sports Crusaders inner-city camps. For information, contact Program Coordinator Randy Curless at 636-248-3749 or randy@sportscrusaders.org.
