JEFFERSON CITY — Churchnet (the Baptist General Convention of Missouri) will give a $5,000 grant to a congregation whose building was destroyed by a tornado in Joplin.
Meeting at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City June 10, directors agreed with a resource and relationship team recommendation to grant the funds to Harmony Heights Baptist Church.
Churchnet directors noted the church, which lost three members and its building to the tornado that ripped through Joplin on May 22, has set up a fund to assist its people whose homes were destroyed. The directors wanted to help Harmony Heights itself as the congregation assists others.
Executive Director Jim Hill noted two chainsaw units would assist in Joplin from June 13-27 and possibly would return in July. Churchnet and the Baptist General Convention of Texas will work together in several ministries in the tornado-ravaged city July 25-30.
The entities are looking for 150 volunteers to assist. Interested individuals can find out more on the Churchnet website at thechurchnet.org.
Directors heard several team reports and learned about The Baptist Home's ministry from TBH President Steven Jones. They began the meeting with a brief orientation for new board members.
