Dallas Willard once said, “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.” In addition to the crucial questions about health and safety, it might be even more important to ask these spiritual questions as well.

I love to try new things. Sometimes, however, after I say yes, fear creeps in and I start to feel like maybe I’m in over my head. This is exactly what happened when I learned to kayak.

God has created a world where we have the privilege of interacting with diverse people with diverse experiences and experiencing diverse circumstances. These relationships with people who are different from us and experiences that we would never anticipate are not always bad things.

Our new reality hit us last month like one of the worst sci-fi horror movies we’ve ever seen. Only this time, it was real.

This week, a pastor sat in a chair at the local park with a sign that read, “How Can I Pray for You, Today?” Over the next couple hours, he had a couple of dozen people come through seeking prayer or just looking for a connection.

How does a technologically-challenged person like me shift from closing the church for meetings and — in one week — go to online streaming? Very carefully.

One of the challenges we face in understanding God’s sovereignty is that God may allow certain things to happen that we do not understand, and we must reckon with how these things can become challenges to our faith and understanding of God’s power.
