2005 reports: The Baptist Home: Going strong for 92 years

The Baptist Home is thankful for individual and church donors who have made this ministry possible for more than 92 years.

Dr. Milford and Mary Riggs founded The Home in 1913 when they began taking residents into their own home. Riggs traveled the state raising funds directly from individual donors and churches, while Mary Riggs provided residents' daily care needs.

The ministry has grown to three campuses offering independent living, assisted living and nursing care services for residents and a senior adult ministries resource for churches and individuals.

The goal of providing continuum of care retirement communities on each campus has been completed. The Home has a total of 52 independent living apartments on three campuses in fulfillment of The Home's strategic plan.

Through multiple housing options, The Baptist Home can minister to older adults based on individual needs.

The Baptist Home in Ironton, the oldest facility, is getting a facelift. Renovation is underway on the Riggs-Scott building, the original three-story granite building and the historic heart of The Baptist Home ministry. Renovation of the Goodwin Wing for nursing care also continues.

The Chillicothe facility will have a new roof and a new four-plex independent living apartment unit has been completed. The Ozark campus has completed 24 independent living apartments and operates at near-full capacity.

Senior adult ministry consulting and resource services have ministered through retreats, conferences and private consultations on aging issues.

The Baptist Home offers services and consultation through its Center for Positive Aging to individuals, churches and organizations in aging education and senior adult ministries.

The Baptist Home provides about $2 million in benevolent care to more than 50 percent of its residents. By long-standing tradition, The Home does not receive government funds for room and care, which allows The Home to minister in a Christ-like manner and according to historic Baptist values.

The Home is doing very well due to the faithful and extraordinary support from churches and individuals.

Once again, on behalf of residents, trustees and staff of The Baptist Home, thank you for your love and support of this ministry.
