Three institutions earn BCA, ACP awards

Word&Way, Missouri Baptist University and the Missouri Baptist Foundation came away winners in the 2006 Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition on April 22.

The awards were presented during the Baptist Communicators Association's annual workshop.

Word&Way also earned two awards in the Associated Church Press competition.

Word&Way garnered two BCA awards, including second place in the state Baptist newspaper design competition. Associate editor Vicki Brown took second place in the interpretive reporting category for her series titled "Single Alignment."

In the ACP contest, announced at its annual meeting on April 25, Word&Way advertising and marketing coordinator Ken Satterfield garnered an award of merit for his ad titled "Looking back on a year of Word&Way."

"Explore the Bible" series writer Albert Bean, professor of Old Testament and Hebrews at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, won an honorable mention for biblical interpretation with his lesson titled "Persevere in serving the Lord."

Missouri Baptist University's marketing and public relations department claimed first place in the BCA contest for the university's Web site, which also won one of the competition's grand prize awards, the Exceptional Achievement Award in Interactive Communications. MBU writer Bryce Chapman earned second place in feature writing for a magazine with "Full Circle."

In the BCA public relations and development competition, the Missouri Baptist Foundation's Kim Quinn and Dulce Stevens took second place in special events with "Building Financial Education from the Foundation Up."

"I believe Missouri Baptists can be proud of the award-winning work of these three institutions," Word&Way editor Bill Webb said.

"To be recognized as one of the top two state Baptist papers for overall excellence by BCA is a singular honor for us," he said.

"I am extremely pleased to see Vicki Brown honored for her probing and insightful work on one of the most significant issues in Missouri Baptist life right now — single alignment; Ken Satterfield, for recognition of his outstanding marketing efforts on behalf of Word&Way; and Dr. Bean, for his ability to communicate Bible truths so effectively."
