A majority (79.4 percent) of the 689,800 current Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients were born in Mexico, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) data.
DACA recipients from Central America were the next highest percentage: El Salvador (3.7 percent), Guatemala (2.6) and Honduras (2.3).
California is host to the highest percentage of DACA recipients (28.7 percent), followed by Texas (16.4), Illinois (5.2), New York (4.8) and Florida (3.9). California is host to the highest percentage of DACA recipients (28.7 percent), followed by Texas (16.4), Illinois (5.2), New York (4.8) and Florida (3.9).
Pew Research Center analysis of the data found that 75 percent of recipients lived in 20 metro areas.
The Los Angeles/Long Beach/Anaheim, California, area had the highest percentage of recipients (13 percent), followed by New York, New York/Newark, New Jersey/Jersey City, Pennsylvania (6.8), Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington, Texas (5.3) and Houston/The Woodlands/Sugar Land, Texas (5.2).
A majority are female (52.6 percent), while 88.9 percent are now aged 16 to 30 with an average age of 23.8.
The data is for “individuals who were granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as of September 4, 2017,” USCIS explained. “The number of individuals who were ever granted DACA as of September 4, 2017, was approximately 800,000.” DACA began on June 15, 2012.
