Jefferson City – Jennifer Harris, a reporter for the Buffalo (Mo.) Reflex, will join the Word&Way staff on Jan. 11 as a news writer.
Harris, a 2004 graduate of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, has been a writer and photographer for the Buffalo weekly newspaper for two years. She also lays out pages, manages the archival system and coordinates the Newspaper in Education program for the Reflex.
At Word&Way, Harris will have similar responsibilities as she covers the Baptist scene across Missouri and beyond, works with correspondents and helps produce Word&Way and update its Web site.
She served on the staff of SBU's weekly newspaper, Omnibus, during her fours years at the school, serving as staff writer, feature editor, managing editor, online editor and finally as editor-in-chief.
An award-winning journalist, Harris received a 2006 award for feature photo from the Missouri Press Association. In three different years, she was nominated for Missouri College Media Association Journalist of the Year award.
Word&Way's new writer also has been recognized by MCMA for headline writing, page design and Web site work.
Her part-time experience includes a stint as a communications associate with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Missouri, where she wrote press releases, designed brochures, assisted in Web site design and developed media contacts, among other responsibilities.
"We are very pleased to have a person of Jennifer's ability join us as a member of the Word&Way team," said editor Bill Webb.
"She comes to us with high recommendations and considerable familiarity with Baptists in general and Missouri Baptists in particular," he added. "She already knows a number of our constituents and fellow communicators.
"Jennifer's training and experience certainly will be an asset to our print edition as well as our Web site," the editor said.
