Whether church members cross generational lines depends upon the “common” factors on which their specific Christian community is based. Many faith groups that begin as an age-targeted community often attract older and/or younger members because of their underlying value, mission or message.
A gap exists between generations in the church, experts seem to agree—and building strong relationships may be the way to bridge it.
Churches often segregate their members along age lines. Sunday morning usually sees children in one wing in age-graded Bible study, with adults in another area and often split up age segments.
Many churches intentionally bridge generation gaps because they value what each can learn from the other.
If we follow Jesus’ example, we extend the circle of love. Not just to the lovely. Not just to the ones who loved us first. Not just to the ones whose bartered affection benefits us.
