HOUSTON (AP) — A federal judge on Friday ordered Baylor University to turn over information —including interview recordings and documents — it provided to a law firm it hired amid a sexual assault scandal that rocked the nation's largest Baptist school.

As Missouri Baptist Convention leaders sought to justify their decision to sue five Missouri Baptist institutions, they made some promises to messengers and other Missouri Baptists. Fifteen years have passed since the start of the MBC’s litigation against the Missouri Baptist Foundation, Missouri Baptist University, The Baptist Home, Windermere Baptist Conference Center and Word&Way — with the suits against MBU and TBH still unresolved.  How have two of those early key promises fared with the passage of time?

On Aug. 13, 2002, the Missouri Baptist Convention filed its first lawsuit against five Baptist institutions that shifted to self-perpetuating boards. Fifteen years and several million dollars later, 40 percent of the cases remain unresolved.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Most church leaders believe their financial contributions to local Baptist associations are "a good kingdom investment" while others are struggling to see their relevancy, according to findings from a national survey released July 31.

In June, two Cuban Baptist pastors traveled to the U.S. to meet with Midwest Baptists. The two pastors also visited the Word&Way offices for an interview with Editor Brian Kaylor. 

Future Leadership Foundation, a non-profit headquartered in Jefferson City, Mo., that works to develop Christian leaders across the globe, hosted a June gathering for Baptist leaders across Eastern Europe. Nine Missourians trekked to the Ukraine Baptist Seminary in Lviv, Ukraine, to meet Baptists from Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. 

Central Seminary has announced a new partnership with Sharon and Dan Buttry related to their work in peace and non-violence.

Peace and non-violence are not new areas of interest for Central, but, by working more collaboratively with the Buttrys, Central hopes to enhance the ongoing efforts in these areas the intention of developing an even closer relationship with the Buttrys’ work. 

Baptists from nearly 50 nations focused on religious liberty concerns in multiple nations during the annual gathering of the Baptist World Alliance in Bangkok, Thailand, the first week of July.

Through resolutions, presentations and advocacy, the historic Baptist concern for religious liberty led to attention given to Iraq, Myanmar, Russia, Thailand, the United States and elsewhere.

About 300 Baptists from nearly 50 nations trekked to Bangkok, Thailand, this week for the annual gathering of the Baptist World Alliance.

Meeting in a predominately Buddhist nation, global Baptist leaders learned from Thai Baptists and offered encouragement to Baptists in the region.
