JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The hope for a better life for all Missourians — especially those whose circumstances have robbed them of dignity — is systemic change to open the American dream to everyone. “Claim the dream” repeatedly rang out at Quinn Chapel AME Church as more than 350 members of Jefferson City’s faith community packed the sanctuary on Jan. 23 to stand for economic dignity, racial equality and equal opportunities.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Although they continue to disagree on a solution, representatives of the Missouri Baptist Convention and four formerly affiliated agencies have agreed to continue to talk about an end to litigation, now in its 12th year.

Representatives of the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Christian Life Commission filed suit Jan. 8 challenging an executive order by Gov. Jay Nixon allowing same-sex couples legally married in another state to file joint tax returns with the state Department of Revenue.

The Baptist Home has purchased land in Ashland, Mo., for the future site of a central Missouri campus. Once constructed, it would become TBH's fourth facility for older adults in the state.

The Missouri Baptist Convention took an unprecedented move when it filed a motion for declaratory judgment against The Baptist Home, Missouri Baptist University, Windermere Baptist Conference Center, Word&Way and the Missouri Baptist Foundation in August 2002. (The convention dropped its lawsuit against Word&Way in April 2010.) This legal action timeline includes significant dates and actions since this time that is still ongoing.
