Options available to aid Katrina victims

Several Baptist agencies offer opportunities for Missouri Baptists who would like to contribute funds to assist victims or who would like to help as clean-up and care of those affected continues.

Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief

Individuals can send monetary contributions to aid hurricane victims to the Missouri Baptist Convention, 400 East High St., Jefferson City, MO 65101. Missouri Baptists also can financially assist the state's disaster relief directly by sending contributions marked "Missouri disaster relief unit" to the convention office.

Those interested in working onsite should contact John Mathews, mass care coordinator, by e-mail at one-t@sbcglobal.net, or state director Gary Morrow at gmorrow@mobaptist.org.

Some associations also are taking contributions that will be passed to the MBC or to the North American Mission Board.

North American Mission Board

Individuals and churches can send contributions directly to the North American Mission Board online at www.namb.net/disasterrelief, by phone at 1-888-571-5895 or by mail to North American Mission Board Disaster Relief, P.O. Box 116543, Atlanta, GA 30363-6543.

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship

Missourians can contribute through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's Global Missions Hurricane relief account online at www.thefellowship.info/landing/giving.icm or by mail at P.O. Box 101699, Atlanta, GA 30392. Donors should write "Hurricane Relief Fund #17004" in the memo line.

Individuals and churches can send contributions to the CBF Missouri state office at 101 N. Clayview Dr., Suite C, Liberty, MO 64068. Donations will be forwarded to the national organization.

National CBF is mobilizing volunteers through Tim Woods. He can be contacted at 800-782-2451 or at twood@thefellowship.info.

Holmeswood Baptist Church, Kansas City, also is organizing a team to be available to go to the area as soon as national CBF coordinators give the word. Baptist World Alliance

Baptist World Aid, the relief and development arm of the Baptist World Alliance also will receive monetary donations. Gifts should be designated for Hurricane Katrina Relief and sent to Baptist World Aid, Baptist World Alliance, 405 North Washington St., Falls Church, VA 22046. Baptist Medical/Dental Fellowship

Baptist Medical/Dental Fellowship is tracking medical needs through several different organizations. Interested medical personnel should contact Jessie Flores at BCFS at 210-283-5123.

Louisiana Baptist Foundation

Churches and individuals can contribute to work in New Orleans through the Louisiana Baptist Foundation. Mark contributions as "New Orleans Relief" and send checks to the Louisiana Baptist Foundation, P.O. Box 311, Alexandria, LA 71309.

National Woman's Missionary Union

Individuals and churches can contribute to hurricane relief through WMU's HEART Fund, established in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist bombings. The fund is administered through the WMU Foundation. Find out more at www.DirectorofMissions.com. (updated 09-22-05)
