PHOENIX (ABP) – Atlanta-area pastor Bryant Wright was re-elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention Tuesday afternoon.
Wright, pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga., received 95 percent of ballots cast. Wiley Drake, a former convention vice president, nominated himself. Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif., received 102 votes, 4.28 percent of the total.
There were 4,780 messengers at the time of the vote, the smallest convention since 1944.
