SAINT LOUIS — The Missouri Baptist University Board of Trustees voted Feb. 28, 2019 to forego further appeals in the ongoing litigation related to the University’s governance following a Missouri Western District Court of Appeals ruling in favor of the Missouri Baptist Convention on Feb. 19.

IRONTON, Mo. — The Baptist Home board unanimously voted February 26, 2019 to cease further appeals in the 17-year civil case over the issue of governance. The board action to not appeal ends one of the longest civil cases in Missouri jurisprudence.

NASHVILLE (BP) -- After a workgroup of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee released a statement Feb. 23 on 10 churches noted by SBC President J.D. Greear in a report on sexual abuse, Baptist Press attempted to contact the churches for their response.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- Jayson Albers, who grew up in a Baptist church, made a living for a long time as an opening shift supervisor for Ryan's steakhouse. On Feb. 19, a three-judge panel of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District ruled unanimously for the Missouri Baptist Convention in its more than 16-year legal battle that trustees of Missouri Baptist University and The Baptist Home did not have the authority to move to self-perpetuating status and should be elected by the MBC.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RNS) — J.D. Greear, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, said the denomination's Executive Committee should immediately investigate 10 churches named in a report by the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News, including Second Baptist in Houston — one of the largest churches in the SBC.

(RNS) — An online directory of Southern Baptist ministers included at least five names that are also included in a new database of convicted sex offenders with Southern Baptist ties compiled in an investigation by two Texas newspapers.

One in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. It is everyone’s Christian duty to immediately report any knowledge or suspicion of abuse or neglect whether, one falls in the legal category of a mandated reporter or not.

BOLIVAR, Mo. — As chair of Southwest Baptist University’s Peer Assessment Committee to discuss faith, learning and orthodoxy created in December, David Dockery has named five additional members of the committee in a Feb. 13 release by the school. The committee is part of a strategic process launched in the fall by SBC President Eric A. Turner.
