Kansas City — Delayed by injuries and surgeries by a few months, Billy Graham overcame frailty and a drizzling rain to launch his Heart of America Crusade Nov. 7-10 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Bundled in a sweater and overcoat on opening night, the venerable evangelist recounted the story of Jesus' encounter with Nicodemus and applied it to the 8,000 people gathered under overhangs and beneath umbrellas.
When he finished his brief sermon, stopping to sit behind the massive pulpit about midway through, people began streaming out of their seats across the soggy field either to make decisions or to counsel those who had come.
The rain subsided when he began to preach, and it did not return through the remainder of the crusade. More than 155,000 attended over four days, and more than 8,600 made decisions for Christ.
