Wallace E. "Wally" Jones, pastor emeritus of Fee Fee Baptist Church of Bridgeton and former Missouri Baptist Convention president, died July 8.
Jones served as pastor of Fee Fee for more than 34 years — from 1959 to 1994 — and was MBC president 1985-86. From 1984 to 1992, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
He served as a trustee at Hannibal-LaGrange College, Hannibal; Missouri Baptist College (now University), St. Louis; William Jewell College, Liberty; Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C.; and the Missouri Baptist Foundation.
Jones had been honored as a Walter Pope Binns Fellow by William Jewell and was the 1992 recipient of a Life Beautiful Award presented by Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar. In 1976, MBU awarded him an honorary doctor of divinity degree.
He was an alumnus of Southeastern, William Jewell and Southwest Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Jo; sons, Randy, David, Willy and Kirk; and four grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted on July 12 at Fee Fee Baptist Church, with current pastor Randy Fullerton officiating. The service is available online at www.feefeebc.org.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to First Baptist Church, Lake St. Louis, where Jones served as minister to senior adults.
