55+ adults celebrate the second half of life

ROACH — Adults age 55 and older have a great deal to offer their churches and their families in the last half of life and beyond.

"The best part of your future you will not be here for," declared theologian, author and artist Calvin Miller at the 55+ Fall Celebration at Windermere Baptist Conference Center.

The retreat centered on the theme, "Serving in the Last Half of Life," with 2 Corinthians 5:15 as the focal passage. Miller served as preacher for the Sept. 20-23 event, with Gerald Jones as worship leader, John Howell as marriage and family speaker and Aubrey Burk as devotional leader. Several attendees participated in the Celebration Choir.

In addition to worship, the four-day retreat included concerts by The Potter's Wheel and The Lesters. Attendees could chose from among many enrichment conferences on estate planning, humor, family history, retirement and others. Several activities, including mini-golf, table games and crafts, also were offered.

Prior to the event, Miller led conferences on the virtues of Celtic prayer and spirituality Sept. 18-19 at First Baptist Church, Farmington. Celtic Christianity proliferated in the Middle Ages in the British Isles.
